Selma
Book 2
Selma, Alabama has the charm of many small towns, amplified by its history. Situated on a bluff over the Alabama river, first occupied by the Muskogee then the French, Selma was named & incorporated in the 1820's. An arsenal of the Confederacy it was a target for bitter fighting with Union forces. At the end of Reconstruction in the 1870's it was an equally bitter focus  of Jim Crow voter suppression & lynchings. Now Selma is best known for the brave & determined efforts of civil rights workers in the 1960's.
Selma is a visual delight for the itinerant photographer with its layers of history visible at every turn. There is no shortage of art in this town.
The Coffee Shoppe in the 300 block of Broad street is a friendly refuge for the traveler, with good coffee, sandwiches, & WiFi.
